| The Writers’ Union of Canada administers
two readings subsidy programs: the National Public Readings Program, funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, and the
Ontario Writers-in-the-Schools Program, funded by the Ontario
Arts Council.
Hosts who invite writers to read to the public or to present
to elementary or secondary school students are welcome to
apply for a subsidy.
Hosts applying for public readings include
organizers of reading series, library staff, university professors,
publicists, program coordinators, etc. Hosts hold public readings
in libraries, universities, bookstores, cafes, and other public
venues. Please see hosting a successful reading or signing for more details.
Hosts applying for school visits include
staff of elementary schools, middle schools, high schools,
private schools, and school libraries of public, Catholic,
separate, and private school boards. Presentations are catered
to student audiences: the Ontario Arts Council cannot provide
funding for presentations made to staff. Please see guidelines for a successful author visit for more details.
