Book Launch & Concert

HomeLiterary Reading or Event

Event: Jul 31, 2022

You are cordially invited to the launch of Bruce Sudds's novel, Ain't Nothin' But A Stranger In This World. Bruce will offer an introduction, a short reading, take questions, and will be followed by live music while he signs books. There will also be copies of the novel for sale at the event.

Set in Canada, the novel opens with the question: “Would you like a story? A tale that will grant you peace?” And from there, we move into a world where a series of people are untied over a tragedy, and we see how it shapes and bonds them over time. With touches of magic realism to portray the psychological impact, shifting narrative styles, and a preoccupation with music (each chapter is named after a song), I try to give, as one writer has said, “a prismatic exploration…” of the subject.

Here are a few quotes by Canadian authors about the book:

“'This is a beautifully moving novel. It's in part memoir, which makes it all the more so. The story is based on a tragedy that happened to the author in his youth, a tragedy that has haunted him for decades. As fact-based fiction with a touch of magic, he has creatively and compassionately recreated how the tragic loss of a child affects a number of people, illustrating how very connected we all are, and that no one is ever forgotten.” - Sandra Gulland, author of The Many Lives & Secret Sorrows of Josephine B.

"Bruce Sudds has written a prismatic and deeply heartfelt exploration of grief, a deep dive into the ramifications of our earliest tragedies. Ain't Nothin' But A Stranger In This World is as raw as fiction gets.” - Mark Sampson, author of All the Animals on Earth and The Slip.
