Saturday, November 23, 2024 | 1:30-2:30

Join Keiko Honda, Ph.D.MPH in conversation about her deeply moving memoir, Accidental Blooms

In her new memoir, Accidental Blooms, published by Caitlin Press, Honda recounts her life before, during, and after her diagnosis of transverse myelitis (TM), which confined her to a wheelchair for life. She explores the profound humanity and enduring relationships that have supported her throughout her journey. The book delves into Honda's artistic practice, her community involvement, motherhood, and her identity as a Japanese immigrant.

“Keiko Honda is sharing much more than a memoir. She is sharing a philosophy of love and care in a time of anxiety and uncertainty. She shares a journey of possibilities when adversity strikes with life-altering challenges. This book is both an evocation as well as an example of ‘seeing with the heart.’ Our world is a better place for Keiko Honda’s generous gift(s).” — Dr. Bernard Perley, Professor for Critical Indigenous Studies, UBC

Admission: Free entry with a copy of the book “Accidental Blooms”.  Or $5 at the door. The book will be available for purchase at the event.
