Michael Howell was born in Sarnia, Ontario in 1957. He studied architecture at the University of Waterloo and earned a Bachelor of Education at the University of Calgary. As a high school teacher he is known for his creative leadership programs. In 1998 his grade 9 Autonomous Learners appeared on Dateline NBC with their "Save the Titanic" simulation.
