Paul Smith
BIO
Biography

Paul Smith is a genre-spanning Canadian author whose work ranges from powerful historical fiction and pulse-pounding thrillers to heartfelt young adult and children’s books. A former ICU registered nurse, he turned to writing as a creative outlet and source of healing, bringing compassion, resilience, and emotional depth to every story he tells.

Known for exploring courage in the face of adversity, Paul’s novels often shine a light on overlooked histories, moral complexity, and the strength of ordinary people in extraordinary times. Whether writing about survival during war, wildlife under threat, or young people finding their voice, his work is driven by empathy and hope.

Based in Newfoundland and Labrador, Paul writes daily, as a form of therapy, for his disability of moderate-severe PTSD, which developed from his time as an ICU registered nurse, and continues to build a diverse catalogue that reflects both imagination and lived experience. Readers can expect stories with heart, tension, and unforgettable human stakes.
