BIO
Biography

Wendy Hawkin is an author/publisher with Blue Haven Press.

As W. L. Hawkin, she publishes the Hollystone Mysteries, a mystery/thriller/urban fantasy series that features a coven of Vancouver witches who solve murders using ritual magic and a little help from the gods. As a genre-blending author, she says her stories are rife with “myth, magic, and mayhem.” Her latest series, the Lure River Romances, is small town romantic suspense set in the American Midwest close to where she grew up.

Wendy also writes as Harper Carr (The Man in Black series)

Originally from rural Ontario, Wendy has made British Columbia her home for the past twenty-five years. She cherishes her B.A. in Indigenous Studies from Trent University (1997). There, she found her voice publishing poetry and Native rights articles in Canadian news magazines. After moving West, she completed Diplomas in the Arts (English Literature) and Humanities at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, where she was published in iamb, the S.F.U Journal of Creative Writing. Wendy also completed a Teaching Certificate at S.F.U. and taught high school for almost twenty years. She still uses her teaching skills to offer writing workshops. How to Structure your Novel using the Hero’s Journey and Writing with your Muse are two favourites.

In 2013, Wendy spent a year working as a relief lighthouse keeper, soaking in the rugged isolation of the Northwest Pacific Coast and blogging her adventures at Life on the BC Lights. An upcoming YA novel is inspired by her lighthouse work.

Wendy loves to soak up the sacred landscape of her settings so although she’s an introvert, her characters often embark on a heroic journey where she’s travelled herself.
