LodgePole Arts Alliance (LPAA) and Kingston WritersFest (KWF) are proud to present Sculpted by Storms, a special evening celebrating Indigenous storytelling, truth-telling, and resilience at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts on September 30, 2026, at 7 p.m.

This event is a collaboration between LPAA and KWF and brings one of Canada’s most acclaimed Indigenous novelists to Kingston audiences. Michelle Good, best-selling author and an influential literary voice, will join celebrated broadcaster and Queen’s University Chancellor Shelagh Rogers on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in conversation about Good’s highly anticipated new novel Eliza Sunshine.

Good’s debut, Five Little Indians, earned widespread critical acclaim, winning the Governor General’s Literary Award and the Amazon Canada First Novel award among others, before being selected as CBC’s Canada Reads pick for 2022.

Her new novel, Eliza Sunshine, is a sweeping family saga tracing three generations of Cree women bound together by story, survival, and the land itself.

“Before becoming an author, Michelle Good built a career as a lawyer and legal advocate for residential school survivors, listening to and fighting for those who had stood voiceless for so long and who continue to carry the scars of their experiences,” says Terri Lynn Brennan, Executive Director of LPAA.

Special guest Kym Gouchie will perform at the Sculpted by Storms event. Known as a cycle breaker, Indigenous singer-songwriter and cultural ambassador from the Lheidli T’enneh Nation, she blends folk, roots, and traditional sounds to amplify social justice, language preservation, and cultural resilience.

“The presentation of Sculpted by Storms and our partnership with LodgePole Arts Alliance reflects our commitment to storytelling and its ability to connect communities,” says Bruce Geddes, Festival Director for Kingston WritersFest. “We are honoured to partner with them to bring Michelle Good’s remarkable voice to Kingston and look forward to building continued opportunities for cultural exchange through literature.”

“LodgePole Arts Alliance is excited to be working alongside Kingston WritersFest to celebrate and elevate Indigenous storytelling,” says Brennan. “We are committed to working together to create opportunities to support new, mid-career, and established Indigenous writers while sharing a diversity of voices, experiences, and perspectives.”

The Sculpted by Storms event is generously sponsored by Professional Investments, Kingston and the Ballytobin Foundation.
