Barbara K. Seeber, professor and writer, lives in Niagara and is at work on a memoir. She teaches English Literature at Brock University, including courses on Jane Austen, eighteenth-century fiction, and Animal Studies. Her current favourite course is "The Lives of Dogs." She is the author of "Jane Austen and Animals" and "General Consent in Jane Austen: A Study of Dialogism." "The Slow Professor: Challenging the Culture of Speed in the Academy," co-authored with Maggie Berg, was published by University of Toronto Press in 2016 and chosen as one of the “Books of the Year” by "Times Higher Education." It since has been released in paperback, translated into several languages and released as an Audible title. "The Ten-Year Anniversary Edition of The Slow Professor" includes a new introduction by Berg and Seeber as well as sixteen contributions by academics and professionals across disciples, institutions and career stages, and was published in 2025.
