Lois Lorimer is a poet, writer, actor and educator living in Brockville, Ontario. As an actor, Lois worked in television, film and radio drama. Her stage work includes seasons with The Shaw Festival company and performances at theatres in Toronto, Saskatoon, London, and Montreal. Lois taught English, Drama and worked as teacher-librarian for the Toronto District School Board at R.H. King Academy in Toronto. Lois helped pilot The Griffin Trust for Poetry's Poetry in Voice in metro Toronto. She is a member of The League of Canadian Poets.
Lois recently read her poetry at The Brockville Arts Centre in 2026 while receiving a Hall of Fame Performance award. She is founder and featured reader at Poetry Brockville Reading Series.
In 2023, one of her poems was published in an American anthology of poetry: The Wonder of Small Things: Poems of Peace and Renewal (Storey Publishing.) In 2010, her poetry chapbook Between the Houses, was published by Maclean Dubois in Edinburgh. Her poetry collection, Stripmall Subversive, was published by Variety Crossing Press in 2012.
Her poems have appeared in leading literary journals including: Arc, Literary Review of Canada, and Hart House Review, as well as anthologies including: Animal Companions, Animal Doctors, Animal People (Ontario Veterinary College, Guelph U: 2018.)Another Dysfunctional Cancer Anthology (Mansfield Press: 2018), The Bright Well (Leaf Press: 2012) Connectivism (Variety Crossing Press).
An enthusiastic supporter of arts and culture in Eastern Ontario, Lois writes articles featuring local artists and their work in The Fishwrapper arts newspaper. She serves on boards of the Thousand Islands Playhouse, and Arts Hub Brockville.
At the inaugural St. Lawrence Writers Festival 2025 in Brockville, Lois moderated the poetry panel with three visiting poets. She served as a judge for the League of Canadian Poets Jessamy Stursberg Poetry Prize for Canadian Youth. Lois enjoyed writing poems for the public, in Toronto's Union Station, as part of the League of Canadian Poets' Poetry in Union initiative. She has also written spontaneous poems for visitors during Culture Days in Brockville. Lois has been a featured reader at reading series in: Ottawa, Cobourg, Hamilton, Toronto, and Lerwick, Shetland. While in Toronto, Lois featured often at the Art Bar Poetry Series. She is a featured poet for River City Reading Series in Brockville, Ontario.
