Rana Bose was a novelist, playwright, poet, dramaturge, professional engineer, and founding editor of Montréal Serai — a nonprofit arts and culture online magazine, which began as a local theatre and arts collective. (It now offers an annual Rana Bose Memorial Grant for writers and artists.)

Rana authored four novels, including Shaf and the Remington (2022), and Fog (2019), which won the Miramichi Reader’s 2019 Best Canadian Fiction Award. His plays have been published and performed in Canada and the United States. His last play, Tribes! (No Matter What), was performed by Esperance Theatre shortly after his death, in co-production with Teesri Duniya Theatre. Rana was born and raised in Kolkata, studied in the U.S., and lived for over 40 years in Montreal. In 2016, he won the Quebec Writers’ Federation’s Judy Mappin Community Award.
