Tabasco is one of my many wildlife orphans and named after Tabasco Sauce after I heard on a local radio station that the winning entry to eradicate raccoons from Vancouver, BC was to paint all the roofs with spicy Tabasco Sauce. Mr. McIlhenny who makes Tabasco sauce saw my raccoon on the front page of the Montreal newspaper and wrote to ask me why I named Tabasco after his sauce. Later I was to write another book LOOKING FOR THE WILD which describes how his family brought animals back from extinction.
