Alison Hughes has been a finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Awards and the CBC Nonfiction Prize and won the Writers’ Union of Canada Writing for Children Award and Alberta’s R. Ross Annett Award. Her books have been nominated 14 times for children’s choice awards including the Silver Birch, and have been Junior Library Guild and Bank Street College of Education Best Books selection. She has published 20 books for young people (four more releasing in 2024-25) with translations into Korean, Dutch, Turkish, Bahasa Indonesian and French, and her short fiction has appeared in several anthologies. She's presented at schools, libraries, festivals and conferences across Canada, and has also been a touring artist for the TD Canadian Children’s Book Week. She also works as a Writing Advisor/Editor at the University of Alberta.
