Taylor Marie Graham
BIO
Biography

Taylor is a writer, theatre artist, and educator who grew up on the Huron Tract / in Huron County, Ontario. In her writing, she enjoys digging into difficult subjects using humour, developing complex characters, and balancing complicated relationships. Her projects often ask decolonial and feminist questions about what it means to be rural and/or Canadian. For her writing, Taylor has received the York University George Ryga Award, a Waterloo Regional Arts Award, a Dora Award nomination, as well as multiple regional, provincial, and federal grants.

Taylor studied theatre at York University, has an MFA in Creative Writing, and a PhD in English and theatre studies at the University of Guelph. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Bishop's University.

You can find Taylor’s articles in Canadian Theatre Review, Intermission Magazine, Routledge’s Journal of Applied Theatre and Performance, Theatre Research in Canada, Guernica Editions, The Conversation, and Canadian Literature.

Critics describe her plays and operas as, “arresting and funny” (Slotkin), “uncommonly cool” (MoT), “charmingly twisted” (Toronto Star), “powerful, and courageous,” (OnStage), “meaningful for all ages” (Intermission), “darkly evocative” (Istvan Reviews), “psychological, theological, and ornithological” (Our Theatre Voice), “as moving as it is scary” (My Entertainment World), and “profound, beautifully crafted” (StageDoor).

June 2024, Talonbooks published a collection of three of her plays entitled Cottage Radio & Other Plays: Cottage Radio, White Wedding, & Post Alice.
