(she/her) Britt Gillman’s essays, editorials and short fiction have been published in The New York Times, The North Renfrew Times, Augur magazine, The Ex-Puritan, yolk, filling Station, EVENT, Eavesdrop Magazine, kerning, the Creative Nonfiction Collective Society blog, and elsewhere.
Since 2024, she's placed Creative Nonfiction prizes with both Prism International & EVENT. In 2025, her CNF essay "Prairie Philosophy" placed in the GEIST Short-Long Distance Writing Competition.
She's a 2x front-line community librarian within rural Eastern Ontario municipalities, a local history analyst with a focus on empathetic oral history collection, a communications consultant and narrative copywriter for municipalities and accredited support agencies, helping to support organizational storytelling. Britt has enjoyed contributing to the development of the CanLit community in Renfrew County and bolstering knowledge of the WUOC by facilitating monthly writing groups, leading CanLit book clubs, and hosting fascinating author panels + literary open mic events to inspire creativity and curiosity in literature. She's skilled at working with diverse populations; including youth/teens, adults and seniors. Trained in Mental Health First Aid, she is certified to provide front-line support and offer resources to vulnerable individuals.
She is currently working on a book of short stories, and is finalizing her collection of personal essays which explore the connection between class and idioms -- a project inspired by a curiosity on how etymology shapes both belonging and “other-ness”.
Most notably; she is a proud mother to two pre-teens and stewards the care of (2) Maine Coons and (1) Sphynx, an English Springer Spaniel and a Golden Doodle, along with a flock of wily chickens. When not working within the community or writing, she can be found in her garden tending to bioregional native plants, or trying to grow the perfect zinnia.
