Biography

 

 

Bronwyn holds a PhD in Performance, along with a MA and BFA in Applied Theatre. A ‘backcountry poet’, she is the author of knee deep in high water : riding the Muskwa-Kechika, expedition poems (Caitlin Press, 2023) along with the forthcoming hiking beyond… and Hiking Thru Divides: Solo Along the Spine of the Rockies (both with Caitlin Press, TBC). A place-based children’s author, she has written Sea to Sky Alphabet (2023), Gulf Islands Alphabet (2012) and the forthcoming Canadian Rockies Alphabet (TBC), all with Simply Read Books. Bronwyn worked with the Lil’wat and Squamish Nations to garner successful permissions and endorsements for inclusion of Ucwalmícwts and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim​​​​ words in Sea to Sky Alphabet. This innovative publication includes a QR code that readers can scan and listen to and learn the pronunciations of the two local Indigenous languages. Bronwyn has been an invited presenter at the Whistler Writer’s Fest (2023) and has won the Whistler Poet’s Pause competition in 2018. Bronwyn has performed and facilitated arts-based workshops internationally. She has been the recipient of arts funding from the Canada Council and the BC Arts Council along with other granting agencies. She has taught at the community, school and university level, has been a member of the Writer’s Union of Canada for over a decade and continues to be inspired by the place she feels so fortunate to call home: Whistler, BC. @poetichiker
