Chieri Uegaki

Biography

Chieri Uegaki is a second-generation Japanese-Canadian author. Her picture books include Suki's Kimono; Rosie and Buttercup; Hana Hashimoto, Sixth Violin, which won the Ezra Jack Keats Award for New Writer and was also winner of the Governor General's Literary Award for Illustration (by Qin Leng), and Ojiichan's Gift, a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection Award winner. Chieri's debut Young Adult novel, Emiko, inspired by Jane Austen's Emma, was published in June 2025 by Tundra Books. She lives on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.
