Biography
Lamara hails from a richly diverse heritage, with roots in Canada, Georgia, Ukraine, Russia and Syria. She is an accomplished scholar, holding a degree in Political Science and a Master’s in Arts. Lamara has also explored comparative literature at the University of Toronto, where she is currently advancing her academic pursuits.
Lamara is an author, known for her evocative narratives that bridge cultures and histories. Her notable works include the upcoming novel for teenagers, Jusqu’au bout du monde (Éditions David, 2025), and Adieu, Staline! (David Editions, 2021), a finalist for the AAOF Emergence Prize. Her literary debut, A Teenager in Exile (GREF Editions, 2017), established her as a voice as an author.
Fluent in multiple languages, Lamara’s global residences—Georgia, Syria, Belgium, Spain, Germany, and Canada—imbue her writing with a rich tapestry of cultural insights. Beyond her novels, she contributes to the literary dialogue as a host of the monthly show À échelle Humaine on Radio-Canada and facilitates creative writing workshops for both adults and adolescents in educational institutions as well as at the Toronto Reference Library.
Lamara’s literary contributions extend into her active participation as a juror for numerous writing competitions and her involvement with the Canada Council for the Arts. Her works often explore themes of childhood, familial legacy, the female condition, the transformative power of travel, and the complex interplay of identity and origins, making her a distinctive and resonant voice in contemporary literature.
