Biography

May Q. Wong is the author of City in Colour: Rediscovered Stories of Victoria’s Multicultural Past (TouchWood Editions), which includes little known stories about individuals of Métis, Hawaiian, Black, Jewish, Chinese, or Japanese origin, and their communities. She also wrote A Cowherd in Paradise: From China to Canada(Brindle&Glass), exploring the lives of a family forced apart by Canada’s racist immigration laws. Born and raised in Montreal, she lives with her husband in Victoria, BC. She holds degrees from McGill University and the University of Victoria. She retired from the BC Public Service in 2004 and started writing in 2006. In addition to chronicling the lives of “ordinary people,” May creates through cooking, sewing, knitting, and painting. She earned a 2nd degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate at the age of 64.
