Mel Williams is a Canadian writer and former news media executive with more than a decade of experience in community news. She holds a Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Urban Planning from the University of Waterloo and an MA in Creative and Critical Writing from the University of Gloucestershire, where her thesis examined autopathography, the literature of illness and disability.

A recipient of literary grants from the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council, Mel's debut memoir, Little Flames Under My Skin: Rebuilding a Life, One Neuron at a Time, was the 1st runner-up for the 2025 Sue William Silverman Prize for Creative Nonfiction and will be published by Cynren Press in 2028.

Her work has appeared in Brevity Blog, The Fiddlehead, Rollick Magazine, and Arts Accessibility Network Manitoba, and she has been a featured reader with Toronto's Emerging Writers Reading Series. She lives in Toronto's Beach neighbourhood with her two sons and a Siamese cat.
