Naava Smolash

Biography

Naava Smolash teaches in the English department at Douglas College and holds a PhD in English Literature from SFU. Her fiction, poetry, and nonfiction appear in popular and academic publications including Studies in Canadian Literature, English Studies in Canada, Canadian LiteratureWest Coast LineBriarpatchEveryday FeminismLitHub, and the University of Toronto Quarterly. Her essay "The Opposite of Rape Culture is Nurturance Culture" is used in university classrooms and counselling centres worldwide and grew into a book, Turn This World Inside Out (AK Press, 2019). Originally from Tio'Tia:ke / Montreal, she lives in Coast Salish Territories / Vancouver, BC and is a 2018 graduate of The Writer's Studio.
