I've been in the word biz for four decades as a journalist, editor and author. I was editor-in-chief of Western Living magazine in the '80s and '90s, then feature columnist for The Vancouver Sun while freelancing for national magazines. I've had three non-fiction books published.
For the past 20 years I’ve divided my time between Vancouver and Loreto, a small town in Baja California Sur. My current novel, The Bluff, draws deeply from my life in Baja: connections with Mexicans and expats, knowledge of the history and culture, and the amazing landscape viewed from the creaking saddle of a slow-moving mule.
I facilitate writing workshops in both of my hometowns, and in 2016 self-published Reflections by the Sea, a collection from my Mexico workshop. I am fluent in Spanish and manage a bilingual bookstore in Loreto, El Caballo Blanco. I'm married with two daughters, six grandchildren and a schnoodle.
