Tapo Chimbganda

Biography

Dr. Tapo Chimbganda is a Canadian-based writer, educator, and nonprofit leader whose work bridges storytelling, psychoanalytic thought, and Black feminist cultural critique. She is the author of #blacklove: Reflections of Love in Black Relationships (Lexington Books, 2019) and The Classroom as Privileged Space: Psychoanalytic Paradigms for Social Justice in Education (Lexington Books, 2017). Her writing explores the intersections of intimacy, identity, and power, always asking what it means to belong in systems that privilege some while leaving others unseen.

Her essays and research have appeared in journals and edited volumes, including International Journal for Nurture in Education (2016), Pedagogies in the Flesh (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017), Putting Theory into Practice in the Contemporary Classroom (Cambridge Scholars, 2017), and Racial Battle Fatigue in Higher Education (Rowman & Littlefield, 2015).

Dr. Tapo is also the author of Releasing the Unheld (forthcoming), a trade book weaving memoir, theory, and cultural analysis, and she continues to expand into fiction and screenwriting. Her upcoming short fiction piece, Fragile Foundations, will appear in Issue 72 of The Public. Rooted in her Zimbabwean heritage and Canadian experience, her writing speaks across genres—memoir, criticism, fiction, and drama—offering intimate yet expansive insights into love, resilience, and transformation.
