MICHAEL KUSUGAK grew up in Naujaat (Repulse Bay), NWT (now Nunavut). During his childhood, his family travelled by dog sled, living a traditional Inuit lifestyle. He is the author of nine children’s books, including A Promise Is A Promise; Baseball Bats for Christmas; Hide and Sneak; Northern Lights: The Soccer Trails, My Arctic 1, 2, 3; Arctic Stories; Who Wants Rocks; and most recently his first novel for children, The Curse of the Shaman, and his latest picture book The Littlest Sled Dog. Michael’s books have received many awards including the Ruth Schwartz Award for Northern Lights the Soccer Trails, and was the Winner of the prestigious Vicky Metcalf Award in 2008 for a body of work in Children’s Literature. Michael Kusugak recently moved to Valhalla (Arnes), MB from Sooke, BC. Michael continues to write and travel extensively throughout Canada and the world telling stories.
