Helen Forsey is an activist writer who grew up in a political family in Ottawa. After studying agriculture at McGill, she worked for 18 years in international co-operation and popular education in Canada and overseas before moving to a rural co-operative in Eastern Ontario in 1984. There she began writing for publication on feminist, environmental, political and community issues, and doing freelance writing and editing. In 2003 she began spending part of each year in Newfoundland, at her little railway caboose on the shore of the northeast Avalon Peninsula. A mother and grandmother, she now lives with her partner in St. John's, NL.
Her articles and books reflect her core feminism and her passion for social justice, while addressing a wide range of subject areas including farming, fishing, the environment, constitutional democracy, reconciliation and solidarity.
Depending on the audience, I would read and speak about any of the wide range of subjects covered in my books, usually with an emphasis on how people can take action or follow up on the issues involved.
I would design the workshop - perhaps planned and conducted with a partner - to respond to the interests of the participants, on any of the subjects covered in my writings. A major goal would be to encourage follow-up and constructive action.
