Mary W. Walters is the author of four novels, a collection of short stories, and a book of non-fiction. Her most recently published novels are The Adventures of Don Valiente and the Apache Canyon Kid, a novel co-written (word by word, on the phone) with the Santa Fe author John Aragon, and Rita Just Wants to Be Thin, which is available in both paperback and ebook format. Mary's first novel, The Woman Upstairs, originally published under the name Mary Walters Riskin and now rereleased through Amazon, went on to win a Writers Guild of Alberta Award for Excellence in Writing.  In 2010, Write An Effective Funding Application: A Guide for Researchers and Scholars, was published by The Johns Hopkins University Press. Mary has been a TWUC professional development leader, co-presenting with Caroline Adderson on the topic Publishing 2.0: Tips and Traps in 10 centres across Canada in 2014-15. She has worked at various times as awards facilitator at the University of Saskatchewan, executive director of the Writers Guild of Alberta, editor-in-chief at Lone Pine Publishing, and as a freelance writer and editor. Her prose has been published in Geist, The Rumpus, The Malahat Review, Prairie Fire and other literary journals, as well as in several anthologies including The Journey Prize Anthology (1999). She has lived for extended periods in Alberta and Saskatchewan, and currently resides in Toronto.
