Linda Granfield has taken her life-long interest in history and worked it into more than 30 non-fiction titles for young readers and adults. Her research travels have taken her to China, France, the United Kingdom, and all over North America.
Many of her books deal with war and remembrance and she has been a consultant on various documentary and feature films about the First World War, and the Magee family in history. Granfield has also provided historical notes/interviews for television and radio programs, managed media sites for First World War subjects, and has written articles of "first-time-finds" for historical journals.
Granfield has made new discoveries about John McCrae ("In Flanders Fields") and she is currently working on a number of new projects: an omnibus of McCrae's writing (for adults); the life of the Reverend John Gillespie Magee, an American hero of The Rape of Nanking (for adults); the story of Irish-Canadians and their journey/contributions (young readers); a non-fiction book about Newfoundland & Labrador's Unknown Soldier (young readers), and a play about John McCrae's university days (general audience).
Her book "In Flanders Fields: The Story of the Poem by John McCrae" has been called "a Canadian classic." First published in 1995, the book is now being read by a third generation of children, and adults.
