Kate Braid was born in Alberta, raised in Montreal, went to school in New Brunswick and now lives in British Columbia. For fifteen years she worked in construction as a labourer, apprentice, journey carpenter, contractor and trades instructor. She then taught creative writing (poetry and creative non-fiction) at Malaspina University-College in Nanaimo (now Vancouver Island University) at the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University and at various workshops across the country. She now writes full-time from her home in Victoria and on Pender Island, and occasionally teaches.
