Pauline has been spinning songs and stories ever since she graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Voice in 1975 from the University of Alberta. She is an award-winning screenwriter, award-winning novelist, a playwright, journalist, editor, recently published poet, and singer/songwriter with 5 CDs of her original songs. Pauline has published two books of non-fiction: Becoming Intimate with the Earth (Collins Foundation Press 2013) and Whale in the Door (Caitlin Press 2017).
Her rich, earthy voice has been heard in theatres and concert halls across Canada, in the U.S. and the U.K. She was called "a musical instrument linked to a soul" for her passionate portrayal of Edith Piaf in a play she co-wrote, and "a national treasure" for her performance in Jacques Brel is Alive and Well.
Her published/produced writing includes: an award-winning novel; a Cable Ace Award and an Emmy Nomination for best writing in a feature-length screenplay, The Song Spinner, for Showtime; three musicals; several plays in French for children; a CBC radio drama; a book of poems, They Ask Me Why I Sing So Loud; songs for film and television, articles for arts publications, and two non-fiction books.
Pauline is known as a cosmological troubadour for her lively interactive presentations of The Universe Story told in poetry and music at conferences in the U.S. and Canada.
In 2017, she began a reconciliation initiative on Bowen Island - Knowing Our Place - which includes workshops, cultural events with Indigenous artists and Elders, a book club to read Indigenous authors and a the creation of sign greeting visitors with the Squamish Nation name for the island: Nexwlélexwm.
