Barbara Joan Scott’s The Taste of Hunger was published in September 2022 by Freehand Books. A literary mystery that charts the fallout from the marriage in 1926, against her will, of a fifteen-year-old Ukrainian immigrant to a man twice her age, the novel has been likened by author JoAnn McCaig to Sinclair Ross’s As For Me and My House, “but with way more drama, eroticism and mystery!” Author Ian Colford calls it “a story filled with fierce passion, wayward desire and thwarted dreams…a compulsive read…” And from author Joan Crate: “Beautifully written, tough, tender and unrelentingly human, this is a story that cannot be forgotten.”
