My newest book is entitled The Premier and His Grandmother: Peter Lougheed, Lady Belle and the Legacy of Metis Identity. My next book is an edited collection entitled Metis Matriarchs: Agents of Transition, now available through pre-orders. My interest in sharing the stories of Metis women comes from my personal history. I was born on a farm in northeastern Alberta and attended school in the historic town of St.Paul-des-Metis. I hold a PhD in Indigenous and post-Confederation Canadian history. I am an independent researcher, author, and post-secondary instructor who currently lives in Central Alberta. Writing from a historical narrative and biographical perspective, my publications focus on Western Canadian topics that expand readers' understanding of our diverse people and experiences. My books are written in an engaging style that appeals to a broad cross-section of readers.
Sharing the history of Indigenous women and how they contributed to the pioneer communities as they transitioned from the fur trade to more sedentary economies reliant on agriculture and industry. Presentations are interactive as I share the stories and images of Indigenous women and then include a discussion time.
Workshops can include how to research and write a full-length book, how to identify a publisher, how to work through the editorial process, submitted work to peer-reviewed journals.
