Douglas Anthony Cooper’s first novel, Amnesia (Random House) was a national bestseller. It was shortlisted for the Books in Canada First Novel Award, and longlisted for the Commonwealth Prize. His most recent novel, The Strangler Fig, will be appearing in Italian translation (as Afasia) in April 2024. This will coincide with an exhibition of his photography in Venice.
For five years Cooper was a Contributing Editor at New York Magazine, where he wrote and photographed the travel stories.
Cooper has written articles for numerous publications, including Wired, Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, and The New York Times. An article in Travel + Leisure was chosen by Pico Iyer for inclusion in Best American Travel Writing 2004.
Cooper lived abroad for decades — mostly in Manhattan, Oaxaca, and Rome — and returned to Montreal in 2023.
