Sara Komarnisky
BIO
Biography

Sara  is a writer, researcher, and public scholar with a track record of innovative and impactful nonfiction writing projects. She has individually written and published about the lifeways of multigenerational families of Mexicans in Alaska and art and craft made by Indigenous patients at tuberculosis hospitals in Object Lives and Global Histories of Northern North America. She has also participated in the development of collaborative publications including Book of Hope: Healthcare and Survival in the North by Agnes Pascal and the inaugural issue of Xàgots’eèhk’ǫ̀ Journal co-edited with Dr. Lois Edge. With Dr. Crystal Fraser, she has co-authored 150 Acts of Reconciliation, and the national bestseller Talk Treaty to Me: Understanding the Basics of Treaties and Land in Canada. Sara also has two fictional works in development - one set in a not-quite postapocalyptic future Northwest Territories, and another one about a group of self proclaimed art stars in a place called Purple City. 

Sara is of Ukrainian settler ancestry and grew up in the tiny town of Holden, Alberta. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of British Columbia where she was a Vanier Scholar. She has lived in Sǫǫ̀mbak'è (Yellowknife) since 2018 with her husband and two children.
