Nour will outline the relationship between author and agent, including important insights into what agents are looking for, how they work with their clients, when it’s time to look for an agent, and what you should look for in one. Hosted by author Alessandra Requena, this webinar runs 60 minutes including a Q&A period. TWUC members will have access to a recording of the webinar for 30 days. Non-members will only have access to the live event.

Nour Sallam is a literary agent at Helm Literary, representing adult fiction and nonfiction. She has a BA in English Literature and Political Science from the University of British Columbia and studied publishing at Toronto Metropolitan University. As an Arab woman and an immigrant, she loves books that amplify joy and connection, and/or feature complex and nuanced histories, power dynamics, or underrepresented narratives. She works on a wide range of fiction and nonfiction, and is drawn to compelling and accessible stories that give her what she calls “brain butterflies.” Nour is a member of the Association of American Literary Agents (AALA) and sits on the advisory committee of BIPOC of Publishing in Canada.

Alessandra Requena is a queer about town, the town being close to Toronto. She hates doing anything that isn't fun, which is why she writes picture books and spends most of her time making internet videos with her grandma @nonna.elda.cooks. One day she might grow up and do something serious, but it’s unlikely to be anytime soon. You can read her first book The Boy Who Cried Poop! now, in several languages, and if you are patient you can read her next books I Don’t Care What Simon Says! (October 2026) and My Name is Not Fluffy-Wuffy-Swindlebum! (June 2028).
