Biography

Lis van Berkel is the author of a hybrid memoir about lesbian activist and artist Jane Kansas (Nimbus 2027). Lis has 25 years experience writing long-form local journalism, and graduated from Dalhousie University (M.A. English 1990) and the University of King’s College (B.J. 2004 and MFA 2023). She is at work on a second book about Prairie geology and sibling death. Her writing is funded by the Canada Council for the Arts and Arts Nova Scotia. Lis has lived in rural Nova Scotia for 16 years.
