Max Cameron teaches in the Department of Political Science and the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs at UBC. He has served as the Director of the Centre for the Study of Democratic Institutions, in which capacity he co-created the Institute for Future Legislators. In 2013 he was awarded a Killam Teaching Prize. Max has written extensively on Latin American politics. In 2020 he was named a Distinguished Fellow by the Canadian Association of Latin American and Caribbean Studies and he was the recipient of the 2022 Guillermo O’Donnell Democracy Award and Lectureship by the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) for his work on democracy in Latin America. In 2025-2026 Max was elected President of LASA. His most recent book, Divided We Fall (Lorimer, 2026), examines how Canadians can resist polarization and strengthen our identity as citizens as we confront threats to our sovereignty.
