Join Candie Tanaka, TWUC member and Community Events Specialist at the Vancouver Public Library, as they present a session on libraries for authors. Candie will provide an overview of getting your books into the library system and share tips around how to work with programming departments in libraries. Hosted by author Tasneem Dairywala, this webinar runs 60 minutes including a Q&A period. TWUC members will have access to a recording of the webinar for 30 days. Non-members will only have access to the live event.

Candie Tanaka is a multiracial trans writer, artist, and librarian challenging the binaries reconstructed between self and other while exploring archive and memory. They are a graduate of The Writer’s Studio program at Simon Fraser University and have a BFA in Intermedia from Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design. Their YA book, Baby Drag Queen (Orca Books) was a finalist for the City of Vancouver Book Award. They also have work in Resonance: Essays on the Craft of Life and Writing (Anvil Press), This Will Only Take A Minute: Canadian Flash Fiction (Guernica Editions), and Queer Country Crossroads (Caitlin Press).

Tasneem Dairywala is a Pakistani-Canadian children’s author-illustrator and art educator. She holds a BFA from OCAD University and has published four picture books. Library visits, many of which have been supported by The Writers’ Union of Canada, are a central part of Tasneem’s practice and one of the main ways she connects with young readers and the broader community. Tasneem’s new chapter book series, currently a work in progress, weaves Urdu words and Pakistani-Canadian experiences into fantastical adventures. When she’s not writing, Tasneem can be found hula-hooping, singing to her plants, or having spontaneous dance parties with her daughter.
