Kimberly de Witte is a writer, volunteer, and advocate for connecting kids with books. She has volunteered with the Ontario Library Association's Forest of Reading since 2013, reading over 250 books for young people in that capacity.
A member of the Canadian Society of Children's Authors, Illustrators and Performers (CANSCAIP), the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), and the Canadian Children's Book Centre (CCBC), Kimberly believes books are the best way to safely explore big emotions. She hopes her stories make you laugh out loud, shed a tear, and reflect on what it means to be human. AFTER CHARLIE, a novel inspired by real family events, is appropriate for ages nine to adult.
Sometimes the best stories are the real ones. My book, "After Charlie" was inspired by real-life events when my mother was growing up. I felt her experience with a big brother dying and how it affected her and her family could be helpful to other kids, so I wrote "After Charlie". My workshop outlines the research needed to write an historical novel and how you can write your own stories based on real events too.
