Kern Carter was born in Trinidad and raised in Toronto, Canada. He is a single father to a teenage daughter, who he had when he was a teenager, himself. Kern is the author of the recently published YA novel Boys And Girls Screaming (DCB/Cormorant Books) and the forthcoming MG novel, Is There A Boy Like Me (Scholastic/2024). He has previously self-published two titles.
Kern is also the creator of CRY Magazine, a digital platform for writers to share the joys and frustrations of being creatives. CRY has built a community of thousands of emerging writers who feel empowered to be vulnerable within a safe and compassionate environment.
My presentation is titled FROM PASSION TO PAPER and will discuss the following:
- My journey from self-published author selling thousands of novels to securing an agent and earning my first publishing deal
- Finding and building community, both online and off and its importance to my career
- How to build a writing career without tens of thousands of followers
My workshop is called WRITERS ARE SUPERSTARS
