Richard Irving received a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo in 1981and joined the Schulich School of Business at York University in 1984. He was a tenured Associate Professor who taught and conducted research on information systems and project management until his retirement on July 1, 2020.

He is currently finishing a Memoir, Backwoods Boy, about growing up in rural New Brunswick in the 50s and 60s.

Rick has published 14 articles and two books. Office Information Systems: Management Issues and Methods. And Don’t Leave I.T. to the Geeks. He wrote a regular column on Healthcare and I.T. for Canadian Healthcare Technology from 2000 to 2014 when he retired from that position.

Rick has always been active in the community. He was President and CEO of Hazelburn Co-op, a non-profit housing co-op, President of Beatty Buddies, a non-profit daycare, a member of the staffing committee for a local public school, and Cub Scouts. Rick also served as an advisor to the Alternate Budget Committee, City of Toronto and is past president and ex-member of the board of HIMSS Ontario, a non-profit Association for I.T. Healthcare Professionals.

Currently, he is a member of Port Credit Village Project, a non-profit volunteer organization and is on the board of Concerned Friends, an NGO that advocates for people in LTC.
