
Paul is a teacher and a writer, focussing on political economy and social movements. His book, Escape from the Staple Trap, published in 2015 by University of Toronto Press, attempts a reconceptualization of the dominant narratives in Canadian Political Economy. "Truth Behind Bars": Reflections on the Fate of the Russian Revolution published in 2021 by Athabasca University Press, links a three-part history of resistance to oppression in the northern town of Vorkuta, to competing conceptualizations of the world historic events of 1917. He is a Professor at Athabasca University, teaching in the graduate program of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
