Alexis Kienlen is a poet, journalist, fiction writer, book reviewer, and creative writing teacher whose work has appeared in numerous publications across Canada. Born in Saskatoon, Alexis currently lives in Edmonton, Alberta. She holds an Honours degree in International Studies from the University of Saskatchewan, a Graduate Diploma in Journalism from Concordia University and a certificate in Food Security with a focus on urban agriculture from Toronto Metropolitan University. Alexis currently works as an agricultural journalist for Glacier Farm Media.  Prior to this, she was a reporter for The Grande Prairie Daily Herald Tribune, and The Wainwright Review. From 2001-2006, she was the literary editor for Ricepaper, a magazine that celebrates Asian Canadian arts and culture.  From 2007-2018, she wrote a weekly book column forThe Grande Prairie Daily Herald Tribune.  She has significant experience teaching youth. She served as the mentor for the Edmonton teen writing group from 2008-2010, and taught weekly sessions for two summers at Wordsworth writing camp for teens.  Alexis is skilled at blogging, Instagram and Facebook. She has done everything from writing scripts for live events, to copy editing, and manuscript consultation.  She is the author of two books of poetry and a biography of a Sikh civil rights activist. Her first novel "Mad Cow", (2020) tells the story of an Albertan farm family dealing with the effects of mad cow diseases and was released during the pandemic.  She is currently working on her first horror novel.  Her poetry, fiction and articles have appeared in publications in Canada and she has reported from Indonesia, Mongolia, Sweden,  and South Africa.   Areas of interest include-agriculture, mixed race identity, literature, horror,  science, travel, bees, the prairies, the beef industry, the natural world, ethnic relations and conflict, food security, mental health, film, teenage culture,  international relations, the history of the Chinese in Canada and Asia.
