Brandi Morin is the recipient of TWUC’s 2024 Freedom to Read Award. Morin is a writer of Cree, Iroquois, and French origin from Treaty 6 territories in Alberta. She has won multiple awards for her work, and has been published in National Geographic, Rolling Stone, Al Jazeera English, The Guardian, and The New York Times.

Anna Shannon lives, writes, and teaches in Calgary, Alberta. She is the 2024 winner of the Brenda Strathern award and is writing a novel of historical Canadian STEM-inist fiction. She holds professional certification in technical writing and is a proud member of the board for the Writers’ Guild of Alberta. Her Treaty 7 home of Calgary/Mohkinstsis is located on the hereditary homelands of the Niitsitapi (the Blackfoot Confederacy: Siksika, Piikani, Kainai), the Îyârhe Nakoda, and Tsuut'ina Nations, as well as the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.
