New Releases
- Geosapiology: a brief history of geogenesis, the Stones, and the Theory of Appeasement (7-part serial on The Daily Tomorrow, July 2025)—Anticolonial, ecopunk exploration of violence, memory, & taking back the future. Experimental-cerebral, concept-driven, 3,300-word soft/weird Sci-Fi short about a new type of climate apocalypse & what comes after.
🪨my first serial🎉
🪨SUPER weird (sentient stones? no MC? barely narrative?)🥰
🪨geopocalypse = slow slow OOPS🫠
🪨quiet but bloody but also thinky? "Cerebral"?🤔
🪨science x politics x power - people=💣
- Crumbling of the Sandwich Generation (Factor Four Magazine, September 2025)—A 900-word flash nightmare of present future that blurs fiction/CNF with a literary/soft SF interpretation of the myriad polite fictions and lies we're all expected to maintain to keep society and family frictionless
as a toxic substance.
🥪"Swallowing poison" = metaphor for propaganda—but also keeping the peace, playing nice, going w/the flow, raised♀️, etc. ☠️
🥪Angry/sad/dark AF🔥
🥪Def. about 🍉 but also *waves hands* all the rest...💔
- Powerhouse in The Kindread Coast (Black Cat Books, October 2025)—Ecopunk cryptid horror meets the manosphere/toxic masculinity with a side of anticolonialism/anticapitalism & a splash of c2024 brainrot in this 6k word short in a dark speculative/horror anthology for teens and up featuring 13 haunting stories set on/near the BC coast by Western Canadian authors.
🐈⬛Gen-Alpha slang attempt (feel free to laugh!)🫡
🐈⬛Much horror, many monsters, also cryptids🐙
🐈⬛Nature is SO over us💀
🐈⬛He likes to neg, she likes to watch (her bullies get eaten)👀
*Special thanks to Fireside Books in Parksville for hosting a fun-and-frightful West Coast Horror launch event just before Halloween and Jason D'Souza of CBC Radio All Points West for covering the launch!
- And the fun (?) isn't over yet! "The Mistletoe Matchmaker Is Wilting" is next up in the calendar from Pulphouse Fiction Magazine (passivhausfires, passive-aggressive forest spirits, not-so-amorous reindeer in a whacked-out tragicomic death spiral amidst the depths of Polar Winter...), along with an anthology reprint as below...
Reprints
- The Tangle (Did Not Kill Kitsault) (Strange Horizons, 2024; reprinted in Brave New Weird: The Best New Weird Horror Volume 3, Tenebrous Press, June 2025)—Dark speculative ecopunk SFF/H about the Pyrocene, Canada's weirdest ghost town & a road-haunting cryptid. Brave New Weird: The Best New Weird Horror Awards 2024.
- The Patron Saint of Flatliners (Mysterion, 2024; reprinted in Year's Best Canadian Fantasy & Science Fiction: Volume 3, Ansible Press, October 2025)—Fentanyl, faith & family abandonment A dark urban "ghost" story set in Vancouver for fans of Seanan McGuire's Ghost Roads and in memory of Francesca and the many victims of toxic drug supply, overdose, and opioid poisoning in Vancouver and beyond. Top 3 "Anchor Author" Selection for the campaign launching Year's Best Canadian Fantasy and Science Fiction: Volume 3. Longlisted in the 2024 Commonwealth Short Story Prize. - The Pink Slime's Appointment With Destiny (Pulphouse Fiction Magazine, 2024; reprinted in Really Big, Pointy Teeth, WMG Books, exclusive release, 2025)—A humorous SF-lite adventure clocking in at just over 3k words about humidfier scum escaping cleaning and the inevitable downfall of all colonial ambitions. Frothy, funny, and fungal. 2023 Writers of the Future Awards Honourable Mention.
