Biography

Andrew Unger is an award-winning novelist and satirist, best known as the author of the satirical news website The Unger Review (home of The Daily Bonnet). Since 2016, Andrew has written more than 3000 satirical articles, drawing the attention of The New Yorker and The New York Times and cited in debate in the Canadian House of Commons. Andrew’s first work of nonfiction, Just Satire: Comedy and Commentary in an Age of Chaos, will be released by Turnstone Press in spring 2026. In 2021 Andrew published a collection of Daily Bonnet articles called The Best of the Bonnet (Turnstone Press). Andrew’s 2020 novel Once Removed (Turnstone Press) tells the story of a ghostwriter fighting against gentrification in a small Prairie town. Once Removed won the Eileen McTavish Sykes Award for best first book at the Manitoba Book Awards and, like The Best of the Bonnet, was a McNally Robinson bestseller. In addition to The Unger Review, Andrew has written for The Globe and Mail, CBC.ca, Geist, the Winnipeg Free Press, Geez, Rhubarb, Ballast, Preservings, Alberta Views, Friends Journal, and others.
