Douglas Anthony Cooper’s first novel, Amnesia (Random House) was a national bestseller. It was shortlisted for the Books in Canada First Novel Award, and longlisted for the Commonwealth Prize. His most recent novel, The Strangler Fig, was released in Italian translation (as Afasia) in May 2024.
For five years Cooper was a Contributing Editor at New York Magazine, where he wrote and photographed the travel stories.
Cooper has written articles for numerous publications, including Wired, Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, and The New York Times. An article in Travel + Leisure was chosen by Pico Iyer for inclusion in Best American Travel Writing 2004.
Cooper lived abroad for decades — mostly in Manhattan, Oaxaca, and Rome — and returned to Montreal in 2023.
