Biography

I am an Inglis professor (emerita) in the School of Journalism, Writing & Publishing at the University of King's College, Halifax where I taught for 24 years. Currently, I am a Senior Fellow and resident at Massey College, University of Toronto where I produce The JCR: A Massey Podcast, a platform for graduate students to share their research, ideas, projects and passions through interviews and commentary. My first solo book Journalism for the Public Good: The Michener Awards at 50 will be published by Bighorn Books, University of Calgary Press in May 2024.

I am a recovering broadcast and print journalist who has trained internationally. My audio documentaries have been broadcast on CBC Ideas, The Current and Maritime Magazine. Along with writing for various publications, I co-published Asia Media Innovators II (Konrad-Adenauer, 2010) and co-edited The New Journalist (Emond, 2010).
