
Markus Harwood-Jones (he/him) is an author, artist, and academic specializing in trans narratives, romantic fiction, and community storytelling. He has a doctorate in Gender Studies from Queen’s University. He has written multiple novels, including The Haunting of Adrian Yates (2023) and Really Cute People (2024). He lives in Kitchener, Ontario, with his husband, co-parent, and children. Markus maintains a TikTok with over 150,000 followers and can be found on social media under the handle @MarkusBones.
Writing, as with many forms of storytelling, acts as a meeting ground for imagination and reality; it offers a tool to reflect on the world as we know it and imagine what else might be. Expanding one’s imagination is a critical step towards realizing that which feels presently impossible to achieve makes writing an essential practice in world-building. As I reflect on my own journey as a queer, trans young person, I see writing as a survival strategy, a source of power, a method of escape.
