
Stenson has published twenty books. He is two time winner of Alberta's Grant MacEwan Author Prize and also winner of The Writers' Guild of Alberta novel award. His novel The Trade was a finalist for the Giller Prize in 2000. His novel The Great Karoo was a finalist for the Governor General's Award in 2008. He has served on TWUC national council three times and was president of the Writers Guild of Alberta in 1996. He has written scripts for over 150 produced films and videos. He writes a humour column for Alberta Views Magazine. He was raised on a farm in the Alberta foothills north of Chief Mountain and returned to live in nearby Pincher Creek in 2018. He is at work on a novel.
