Carolyn is an elementary teacher who loves to visit other schools to share her love of reading and writing. She lives in Breslau, Ontario with her husband and two children. Her debut picture book, The Little Boy Who Lived Down the Drain, was a 2018 Blue Spruce Honour Book, and her most recent picture book, Grandpa's Stars, just came out in March of 2023. She also has two novels, The Good Son (2021) and Sins of the Daughter (2022).
Carolyn is a long-time educator with a passion for reading and writing. Her presentations encourage participation, questions, and even some singing. She talks about the journey to becoming an author, shares a behind-the-scenes look at how a picture book comes to life, and highlights some unique opportunities that have stemmed from having her first books published, as well as where her ideas come from. Following a reading of The Little Boy Who Lived Down the Drain or Grandpa's Stars, Carolyn leaves the students with a writing prompt of their own that they can take back to the classroom. Interactive and inspiring, Carolyn’s presentation is designed to motivate students to follow their dreams.
For adult presentations, Carolyn can tailor her presentations to suit book club style discussions, author interviews, or writing workshops. She loves to talk all things writing, so please reach out!
Carolyn is excited to offer, for the first time, an intermediate Writing Workshop designed to get kids writing! This workshop can be tailored to small groups or to a whole-class setting. Carolyn has years of experience working with motivated writers and inspiring them to move to the next level, and also working with reluctant writers who need inspiration to get started.
