Jennifer Layman, author of Forward Thinking For Your Business, has earned her first book award at the annual Goody Business Book Awards. Announced on November 14, 2024, the awards shine a light on social impact authors making a difference with words. Hundreds of nominations were received from around the world, with winners and finalists being selected among 50 categories. Layman earned a win in the Entrepreneurship: Small Business category, and a finalist in the Marketing: Sales category.

“What I loved about this competition was that it honoured social impact that is made in categories such as small business and entrepreneurship,” says Layman, a Canadian author, speaker and consultant from Ontario, Canada. “I see how entrepreneurship helps communities grow and prosper, and I’m so honoured to contribute to this important sector.”

The annual awards are open to books published within the past five years. Forward Thinking For Your Business was published in February 2023 and is Layman’s first book. A panel of marketing and communications judges chose the winners and finalists based on the book quality, cover image and how the book improves the lives of the reader.

Layman said her idea for the book came from working with small business owners. She noticed some common marketing challenges that were impeding results and felt that if her business owner clients were facing these challenges, it was likely common for small business owners in other areas as well. Her book is available on Amazon, Ingram, Indigo and across North America.

“I have been a small business consultant for 18 years and it is inspiring everyday to work with people who want to take their business to the next level,” says Layman.

Since launching her book, Layman has also been on the speaking circuit, meeting with audiences of small business owners and entrepreneurially minded leaders about how to build a strategy to deliver better results. She combines marketing insights with her experience as a professional golfer to show businesses how developing a strategy can drive results and increase their competitiveness.
